Andaman Adventure - A herpetological holiday

A twelve night holiday, in which you will travel to some of the worlds most breathtakingly beautiful and unique islands. The trip has been designed with the serious herpetophile in mind. Leading part of the tour will be the renowned herpetologist Romulus Whittaker. In Chennai we will be also be accompanied by members of the Irula tribe famed for their tracking expertise and will trek through farmland & scrub forest in search of snakes. Observe first hand the valuable research carried out by the Andaman & Nicobar Islands Environmental Team. Kayak through mangrove ecosytems, go on night time crocodile safaris, dive or snorkel amongst pristine coral reefs in some of the worlds best dive sites and observe the incredibly colourful and biodiverse array of marine life which inspired Jacques Cousteau to create his film on the Andamans.




Depart London for Chennai via Bombay.
Upon arrival you will be met and transferred to your hotel.

An early start will be required as we will be going on a full day trek through farmlands and scrub forests near Chennai. Mr Whittaker will be leading the treks today and tommorow. We will also be accompanied by members of the Irula tribe who are renowned for their snake tracking skills.

This is another full day of trekking. After we have returned from trekking we will visit India"s foremost institution for herpetofaunal conservation, research and education - The Crocodile Bank in Chennai.

Besides crocodilians, the Bank currently maintains 12 endangered species of turtles and tortoises, five species of snakes, including the King Cobra, water monitor lizards, two species of python and albino cobras.

We will be met and transferred to the airport in time to check in for our flight to Port Blair.

Upon arrival we will be met and transferred to our hotel.

We will be met and transferred to the Andaman & Nicobar Environmental Team"s base camp. Here we will be briefed on the conservation efforts and research aims of the institution before being taken on an escorted tour of nearby forests and creeks in search or reptiles. In the evening optional activities include night fishing, visiting the local Wandoor village or going on a nocturnal croc - tracking expedition.

More on the Andaman Islands 

After breakfast we will cruise to Baratang by dunghi (traditional boat) and kayak through the Middle Strait, followed by trekking through forest until we reach camp.

We will kayak through Porlob Jig Creek and then take a dungi the rest of the way to Long Island Village. After lunch we will trek through the village and forest to Lalaji Bay where we will camp for the night.

We will cruise by dunghi to Middle Button Island. Upon arrival we will have the opportunity to snorkel and look for sea snakes.

After lunch we will then travel by dunghi to Havelock Island and then travel by road to the resort.

We will be transferred to the jetty whereupon our private speedboat will take us to Port Blair.

We will then be transferred to the airport in time to check in for our flight to Chennai. Upon arrival in Chennai we will be met and transferred to our hotel.

We will be met and transferred to the airport in time to check in for our flight to London via Bombay with Jet Aiways.
